ManyChat vs Inboxa: Which Works for an Indian D2C Brand's Week?
Two Instagram DM tools, one week of a small Indian brand's work, compared step by step and fairly.
By the Inboxa team · Updated 12 Oct 2026

You have narrowed it down to two tools. One is ManyChat, the chat platform most guides mention first. The other is Inboxa, built in India for brands that sell on Instagram. Both promise to answer the comments that ask “price?” while you sleep. So the feature lists start to look the same, and the choice gets harder, not easier.
This ManyChat vs Inboxa comparison takes a different route. Instead of another feature grid, it follows one week of a small Indian D2C brand: Monday's setup, Wednesday's reel, the weekend's comment rush, the bill at the end of the month. At each step it says what each tool does, and where one is clearly the better fit.
If you want the wider question of how to pick any ManyChat alternative, read our ManyChat alternative in India guide first. This post is the head-to-head.
Quick answer
ManyChat vs Inboxa comes down to scope. ManyChat is the deeper product for long chat flows across Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, SMS and email, with many integrations and templates. Inboxa is narrower and India-first: Instagram comment-to-DM on Meta's official API, billing in rupees, 200 free DMs a month, and the posts and reels that bring the comments made in the same app.
ManyChat vs Inboxa: the short version
Both tools connect to Instagram through Meta's official API, so neither needs your password. Both can send a DM when someone comments a keyword on your post or reel. After that, they are built for different jobs.
| ManyChat | Inboxa | |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram comment-to-DM | Yes | Yes, on one post, several, or the whole account |
| Meta's official API, no password | Yes | Yes |
| Channels | Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, SMS, email | |
| Flow builder with branches | Yes, a visual builder | No, a short fixed flow |
| Integrations and templates | Many, with a large community | No; leads download as a CSV |
| Billing currency | US dollars | Indian rupees |
| Free plan | Yes | Yes, 200 DMs a month, no card |
| App in Indian languages | No | English and 7 Indian languages |
| Makes posts, reels and product photos | No | Yes, with credits in the same plan |
Monday: how long does setup take?
Setup starts the same way in both. You need an Instagram business or creator account, and you connect it with Instagram's own login. If any tool asks you to type your Instagram password into its website, stop there.
After that the paths split. ManyChat opens into a flow builder: you place a trigger, then messages, buttons, conditions and actions on a canvas, and connect them. It is powerful, and the first flow takes some learning. Its template library and community tutorials help a lot here.
Inboxa has no canvas. You fill one short form:
- Pick where it runs: one post or reel, a few of them, or every post on the account.
- Pick what starts it: a keyword such as PRICE, or every comment. You can add more than one word.
- Write the DM and the button text, for example “Get the link”.
- Paste the link the button brings: your product page, size chart, WhatsApp chat or payment page.
- Turn on the extras you want: a public reply under the comment, a follow-first step, or asking for an email.
For a brand that only needs “comment PRICE, get the link”, that form is usually faster to finish. For a brand that wants a quiz, a branching menu and a tag in a CRM, the canvas is the right tool, and Inboxa does not have one.
Wednesday: how does the comment-to-DM flow compare?
You post a reel that ends with “Comment PRICE for the link”. Here is what a commenter sees with Inboxa: a DM within seconds, with your words and a button. One tap later, the link arrives. If you turned it on, a short public reply also appears under their comment, picked from a few you wrote, so other viewers see that you answered.
Inboxa's keyword match is simple on purpose. A word matches anywhere in the comment, in any case, so “Price?”, “price pls” and “bhai price kitna hai” all match PRICE. If your buyers also write “rate” or “kitne ka”, add those as extra words on the same automation.
ManyChat can do the same core flow, and much more around it: conditions on what a person said earlier, tags, sequences over several days, and handing the chat to other channels. If your Wednesday reel is the start of a long, branching conversation, ManyChat is built for that.
Both tools work inside Instagram's rule for businesses: one private reply per comment until the person writes back or taps. Every further message comes after that tap or reply.
The weekend rush: limits, numbers and leads
A good reel can bring hundreds of comments in a day. Inboxa sends up to 500 DMs a day for each Instagram account, which is past what most small brands see even on a sale weekend. Monthly DMs depend on the plan: 200 on the free plan, and 1,000 to 20,000 on paid plans.
On Monday you want to know what worked. Inboxa shows four numbers for each automation: DMs sent, replies, people engaged and link taps. Its leads list keeps each commenter's @handle, the word they used and the steps they took, and you can download it as a CSV for your sheet or CRM.
ManyChat's reporting and contact data go deeper, with custom fields, tags and integrations that push contacts into other tools automatically. If your team already lives in a CRM, that matters more than a CSV.
Which handles Hindi and Hinglish better?
Both tools send your DM exactly as you write it, so both can send a Hinglish message. The difference is the app around it. Inboxa's own screens work in English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi and Gujarati, which helps when the person running Instagram for a family business is more at home in one of them. ManyChat's app is not in Indian languages.
Do not count on any tool to understand Hinglish for you. What works is choosing trigger words your buyers actually type and writing the DM in their voice: “Thank you! Yeh rahi link, size chart bhi andar hai.”
End of the month: how is billing different?
ManyChat bills in US dollars and has a free plan. On an Indian card, a dollar bill means currency conversion and sometimes a foreign transaction fee, so the rupee amount moves from month to month. Check ManyChat's own pricing page for the current plans.
Inboxa bills in rupees. The free plan sends 200 DMs a month with no card; each person's first DM ends with a short “Powered by Inboxa” line. Paid plans remove that line: Starter at ₹999 a month for 1,000 DMs, Growth at ₹1,999 for 5,000, and Scale at ₹4,999 for 20,000. The same plans carry credits for making posts, reels and product photos. See pricing for the details.
What each tool does that the other doesn't
Only ManyChat
- Many channels in one flow: Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, SMS and email.
- A visual flow builder with branches, conditions, tags and sequences.
- A wide set of integrations with other business tools.
- A large template library and community of tutorials, agencies and experts.
Only Inboxa
- Billing in rupees, with a free plan that needs no card.
- An app in English and 7 Indian languages.
- Posts, reels, product photos and a brand strategy made in the same app as the DM automation.
Note what is not on Inboxa's list. Inboxa does not send WhatsApp messages for you today; you can make your wa.me link the link in the DM, and a one-tap Chat on WhatsApp button is coming soon. It also does not create payment links. You can paste your own UPI or Razorpay payment link as the DM's link, and the buyer pays there.
What's different for Indian D2C brands
- Comments ask before they buy: price, size, COD, delivery to a pin code. A DM answers in private, where the next question is easy.
- WhatsApp is where many orders close: with either tool, the simplest path is a DM whose link opens your WhatsApp chat.
- Festive weeks spike: set up the automation before the Diwali post goes live, not after the comments pile up.
- Rupee budgets: a small brand plans in rupees, so a bill that moves with the exchange rate is a real cost.
- DPDP Act 2023: collect only what you need. Know what each tool stores about a commenter before you connect it.
Common mistakes when choosing between them
- Choosing on the longest feature list. If you will only ever send one link to people who comment PRICE, extra power is extra setup.
- Choosing on price alone. If you need Messenger, SMS or deep CRM sync, a cheaper Instagram-only tool will not do the job.
- Running both on the same post. Two tools on one post means two DMs to the same buyer. Give each tool its own posts while you test.
- Skipping the public reply. Viewers who see an unanswered comment assume nobody replied.
- Never reading the numbers. Compare DMs sent, replies and link taps after a week, then change the words on the weaker automation.
Which should you pick?
Pick ManyChat if your chat marketing runs across several channels, you need branching flows and integrations, or your team already knows it. Pick Inboxa if your funnel is Instagram first, a reel, a comment, a DM and a link, and you want rupee billing, an app in your language and your posts made in the same place.
You can test either one on a single post for a week before you commit. The Instagram DM automation page shows Inboxa's flow, step by step.
Frequently asked questions
Is Inboxa better than ManyChat?
Not in general; they are built for different jobs. ManyChat is deeper for multi-channel flows, integrations and templates. Inboxa is simpler for Instagram comment-to-DM, bills in rupees and makes your posts and reels in the same app.
Do both ManyChat and Inboxa use Meta's official API?
Yes. Both connect through Instagram's own login, so you never share your password. That also means both follow Instagram's rule of one private reply per comment until the person writes back.
Can Inboxa send WhatsApp messages like ManyChat?
No, not today. With Inboxa you can make your wa.me link the link in the DM, so one tap opens a chat with you. A one-tap Chat on WhatsApp button is coming soon.
Can I write DMs in Hinglish with either tool?
Yes. Both send the DM exactly as you write it. Inboxa's app itself also works in English and 7 Indian languages, which ManyChat's does not.
Can I move my automations from ManyChat to Inboxa?
There is no import from ManyChat, but a comment-to-DM automation takes a few minutes to rebuild. Write down each post, keyword and message, rebuild the busiest one first, and turn the old one off for that post before turning the new one on.
Is Inboxa free to try?
Yes. The free plan sends 200 DMs a month with no card. Each person's first DM ends with a short “Powered by Inboxa” line, which a paid plan removes.
